Welcome to the 2015 Natick Innovation & Learning Summit and the Natick Wellness Summit!

DATE: Monday, November 30th, 2015 from 8 AM - 3 PM at Natick High School.
Natick High School is located at 15 West St. Natick, MA 01760

This year we will host over 850 educators and hold over 130 workshop sessions that are facilitated by expert practitioners on the tools, resources and instructional practices that Natick educators have requested.  All sessions are tagged by level and target audience to help you choose the best sessions for your interest and skill level.

This year is extra special because we are joining with the Natick Wellness Summit which has been designed to nurture the interdisciplinary roles of educators in the adoption of physical activity as a learning tool. Learn from leading neuroscientists, educators and psychologists the best practices and evidence based research to creatively incorporate physical activity into school policy, and teaching practices to enhance student’s ability to learn.

We hope you enjoy this years summit and it allows you to deepen your professional practice.

Wellness Summit: Neural Underpinnings of a Fit Brain: What Leading Scientists Have Shown in their Labs, Yet Educators Rarely Learn FULL
Limited Capacity full

What is the role of cardiovascular fitness in cognition and emotional regulation? What
happens in the brain when we exercise and play- just for a short time and then as a daily
habit? In this session Dr. Alex Thornton will present findings from
neuroscience literature detailing the structural, neurochemical, and electrical processing
changes in the brain that are associated with exercise. He will explore how the brain
learns and regulates emotion and attention, and the role of PE in preparing the learner for
success in the classroom and beyond. The goal of this session is to provide a scientific
foundation for the crucial role of PE in today’s schools, not only for the physical health
of students but for their cognitive and emotional well-being. Attendees will leave this
session with the ability to explain how PE prepares students for the next class in school
and how it can contribute to higher levels of education, income and satisfaction in
adulthood.
